Events: Leon Power of Plants Launch

We got the chance to pop along to Leon's spring menu launch all about the Power of Plants. Leon is a popular healthy fast food chain with stores across London, they always have great veggie and vegan options and are well priced therefore making it a staple lunch stop when we are running around London. Upon learning that their  new spring menu was called "The Power of Plants" we were excited to see what the team had come up with for us plant-based foodies to try out.

The new menu is not about exclusively plant based food but using plants as the main focus for flavor and nutrition in the dishes. They are hoping to make a plant based diet more accessible to meat eaters and their regular customers by incorporating new plant recipes with the more familiar options. Having said this, their new menu still manages to cater for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters alike.

The new menu was designed in conjunction with a raw vegan chef, this really shines through in the new recipes; you will find popular raw food staples such as courgetti available and in addition the veggies used in the dishes are mainly raw or very lightly cooked.

Food We Sampled

Two of the dishes we sampled were straight out of their cook book- Happy Salads. The vegetarian option Courgetti & Kale, has a spiralised courgette base with Greek cheese, pesto, basil , cashews and tomatoes. The most common places to find courgetti tend to be vegan niche cafe's and restaurants so it was exciting to see that there is going to be a fast food option that will be easily accessible to a whole range of people with different dietary preferences; therefore enabling you to try something that you wouldn't usually find in your average grab and go lunch.

The second Happy Salad dish was their vegan option-Keen Been Quinoa. This is available with chicken however we obviously had it without! This salad comprises toasted quinoa, broad beans, mange tout, edamame beans and peas dressed in a basil and tarragon vinaigrette. I was incredibly impressesed with this delicious salad. It was sharp, flavorful with a great texture coming from the mixed beans and peas. This is a really super, low-fat, nutrient packed  and well rounded lunch option that I will be going back for and would happily recommend to vegans, veggies and meat eaters to try; it is simply a delicious well rounded spring salad.

Leon's Clean Green Shake is a great breakfast or snack I will be picking up on a regular basis. Filling, nourishing, delicious and satisfying, it ticks all the boxes and with this slightly different recipe for this season it hasn't failed to disappoint. Avocado, spinach, apples with ginger, lemon and coconut water. Just the right amount of sweetness from the fruits and coconut water, creaminess from the avocado and a fresh kick from the ginger and lemon which means there is no spinach taste whatsoever.  This is a popular Leon shake and for good reason, definitely worth a try!

Other Menu Options

Along with the two new salads, Leon's also have other options available for vegetarians and vegans.

Crushed Pea Salad- Minted peas topped with toasted seeds, tossed in a mustard tahini dressing,

Original Super-food Salad-  Broccoli, peas, cucumber, avocado, quinoa, Feta, fresh mint and parsley, toasted seeds and a pot of vinaigrette.

Brazilian Black Bean-  Black beans, carrots and onions, spiced with sweet and smoked paprika, oregano and coriander.

We are looking forward to going back to Leon for some lunch over the next few days and will do a full official review whilst there. It is great to see a London chain really stepping their veggie game up -we loved the new options and cannot wait to see what else Leon has in store in the future!
